Why it matters
If we had decided to sell the store the month before, a buyer could have found that software before we did. That is exactly the kind of surprise we want to find first.

What thirty-five years of this taught us.

Before Divergent Minds, we spent years taking people-dependence out of our own companies. Three examples, kept short, because the point is not how they work. The point is that a job which depended on one person now runs without that person.

Invoice work. About 15 hours a month of reading and typing became a job a person only touches when something looks wrong.
Order checking. About 20 hours a week of watching orders became a list of the few that need a human.
Investigation admin. A 40-hour-a-week admin role became part-time.

We built those inside our own companies. That experience is what we use now to see what should move, what should go, what should be fixed, and what could be built later.

Anything that could be automated later goes into a separate Automation Opportunities Report. It says what could be automated, why it matters, and what the new system would need to do.
